Dog Aggression Training

Aggressive behavior may appear during walks, when visitors enter the home, or when a dog feels threatened or insecure. Superior Dog Training offers behavior modification programs designed to help dogs learn calm and controlled responses. Our training focuses on understanding triggers and safely managing aggression.

Barking Problems

Dogs may bark because of boredom, anxiety, excitement, or territorial instincts. Our training programs help identify the cause of barking while teaching the dog more appropriate behavior.

Separation Anxiety

Separation anxiety can cause dogs to bark, chew, or destroy objects when left alone. Our in-home training programs help dogs build confidence and independence.

Leash Pulling Training

Training helps dogs learn to walk calmly beside their owner while improving focus.

Jumping on People

Our programs teach dogs calm greeting behavior so visitors and family are comfortable.

Why Is My Dog Misbehaving?

Dog behavior problems usually occur when dogs are confused about expectations or lack proper structure. When communication is unclear or inconsistent, dogs may develop behaviors such as barking, jumping, or aggression.

Can Dog Behavior Problems Be Fixed?

In most cases, yes. Dogs are very capable of learning new behaviors when training is clear and consistent.

Signs Your Dog Needs Training

  • Bark excessively at triggers
  • Pull constantly on the leash
  • Jump aggressively on guests
  • Show aggression toward people

Dog Obedience Training
For Dogs & Puppies!

Jeff Wolfson

Written by Jeff Wolfson

Master Canine Behaviorist

Obedience training for dogs is one of the best things you can do for your dog or puppy. Dog obedience training can be conducted at almost any age. It is best to start a dog training management system shortly after you bring your dog or puppy home.

Superior Dog Training usually provides dog training programs for dogs or puppies between the ages of 9 weeks to 9 years old. The older dogs are very trainable but they might be a little more stubborn. This will take more time and patience for the trainer and the owner of the dog.

The Puppy Timeline

We normally start puppy training around 9 weeks old. This will help avoid behavioral problems before they develop into bad habits. This is the most important part of a dogs life for learning and development. Your puppy will benefit from a great dog training program, in home or group dog training classes.

DoggBoss Pro Tip

The first six months of a puppy’s life are critical. During this time frame it is import to apply training, exercise and love. If the behavior problems are left uncorrected, they can create many headaches for the dog’s owner and family.

Having a dog trainer come to your home to train your puppy or dog is an excellent way of correcting obedience and behavior issues on the spot. Your puppy should be directed to follow housebreaking rules and other basic obedience skills soon after you bring them home. A professional dog trainer will be a great asset for the new or frustrated dog owner to achieve their obedience goals. Our dog trainers make a big difference!

Effective Communication

Obedience training doesn’t correct all of your dog’s behavior problems, but it is the key and foundation for solving just about any behavior problem. Dog training opens up a line of communication between you and your dog. Effective communication skills is necessary to instruct and train your dog about what you want them to do at all times.

"If your a dog owner who needs a little help with some basic obedience or your having some very difficult behavior problems with your dog, give us a call because we can help! We have basic and advanced programs that will suit your needs."

We can work with you and your dog to achieve the desired results in a short amount of time and energy, ensuring you have a happy well mannered companion dog that will enhance the quality of life for both you and your dog for many years to come. Superior Dog Training can make a world of a difference in a short time. We guarantee it!

Natural Canine Instincts

Dogs and puppies are social animals and without dog obedience training, they will behave poorly sometimes. This will get frustrating and you will loose the rapport with your canine companion. They will soil your house, destroy your belongings, bark excessively, dig holes in your yard, fight other dogs and even bite you.

Nearly all behavior problems are perfectly normal dog activities that occur at the wrong time or place or are directed at the wrong thing. For example, the dog will eliminate on the carpet instead of outside; the dog will bark all night long instead of just when a stranger is prowling around outside; or the dog will chew furniture instead of his own toys.

This Is Dog Training!

The key to preventing or treating dog behavior problems is learning to train the dog to redirect his natural behavior to outlets that are acceptable by the dog owner.

Industry Secrets Revealed

Why Doggy Boot Camps Are A
Waste of Time & Money

Don't fall for the "send them away" trap. True obedience is built in the dog's true environment. Here is the honest cost and effectiveness comparison between standard industry methods and the Superior In-Home approach.

Facility Group Classes

Estimated Cost: $150 - $400

Generic advice in a highly unnatural, distracted environment. It completely fails to address the behaviors that actually frustrate you at home.

  • Doesn't fix door dashing
  • Doesn't address counter surfing
  • Highly distracting & stressful

Verdict: Ineffective for behavior.

High Failure Rate

Doggy Boot Camps

Estimated Cost: $2,500 - $5,000+

A massive waste of money. The dog learns to respect the trainer in a sterile facility, but the dog owner learns nothing. When the dog comes back, the bad habits return.

  • Not trained in their true environment
  • Owners don't learn how to lead
  • Often use shock collars for fast, lazy results

Verdict: Expensive & Temporary.

The Superior Way

Private In-Home

Best Value & Permanent Results

Dogs must be trained in their true environment. You observe the training humanely and effectively—no shocking, no treat bribery. Distractions are added gradually in your home setting.

  • You apply new skills daily to maintain a respectful attitude
  • Establish boundaries: Quiet, Stay in yard, Stay in den
  • Correct: Off sofa, Off counters, Off beds

Verdict: A Lifetime Foundation.

What to Expect

Anatomy of an
In-Home Session

No surprises. We maximize every minute of our time in your home to permanently shift the pack dynamic.

Phase 1: The Assessment

Minutes 0 - 15

We observe how the dog reacts to a stranger (the trainer) entering the home. This gives us an unfiltered look at their natural state, anxiety levels, and how they attempt to control the space.

Phase 2: Spatial Pressure

Minutes 15 - 45

The trainer steps in to establish boundaries. We use body language and spatial pressure to claim the door, the furniture, and the walking space. The dog's psychology begins to shift immediately.

Phase 3: Owner Coaching

Minutes 45 - 90

We hand you the leash. A trained dog is useless if they only listen to the trainer. We coach you through the exact movements, tone of voice, and timing required to earn the dog's respect yourself.

Phase 4: Homework

Minutes 90 - 120

We finalize the session by creating a custom daily protocol for you to follow. Consistency is king. We leave you with the tools and knowledge to maintain the transformation.

Rehabilitation Experts

Rescue Dog & Mixed Breed
Specialists

Rescue dogs often bring unknown histories, learned anxieties, and unique trauma into their new homes. Attempting to solve deep-rooted fear or aggression with a pocket full of treats often exacerbates the problem.

Our in-home system creates the immediate structure and security these dogs crave. By stepping in as a calm, assertive leader, you lift the burden of "protection" off the dog's shoulders. This allows their nervous system to relax, building unbreakable trust through leadership rather than bribery.

Fear-Based Reactivity

Teaching rescues how to exist calmly in a new world.

Universal Pack Leadership

Yes, We Provide
Cat Training Too.

"Because a purrrrfect cat helps create a pawwwfect dog!"

It is incredibly unfair to demand perfect obedience from your dog while the family cat is allowed to do whatever it wants. In a balanced home, our philosophy is simple: the same rules apply to everyone.

Many owners don't realize that cats often become fearful, anxious, or highly destructive strictly due to a lack of leadership. When there are no boundaries, the cat feels forced to run the house. We teach you how to establish clear structure for your feline companions so they feel secure, calm, and respectful of the pack.

Feline Behaviors We Correct

Counter Surfing

Jumping on kitchen counters, tables, or beds. We establish strict spatial boundaries.

Destructive Behavior

Excessive scratching on furniture, destroying property, and knocking items over.

Time is of the Essence

From 9 Weeks to 9 Years

Dog obedience training can be conducted at almost any age, but the psychological approach changes depending on the developmental stage of the dog. Whether laying a clean foundation or untangling years of bad habits, our system adapts.

Prevention

9 Weeks:
Puppy Start Window

The first six months of a puppy’s life are critical. By starting at 9 weeks, we avoid behavioral problems before they develop into deeply ingrained habits. This is the most important window for imprinting boundaries.

The Imprinting Timeline:

  • 8-10 Decompression, crate intervals, housebreaking.
  • 10-14 Neutral socialization, collar/leash desensitization.
  • 14-16 Introduction of formal structure and impulse control.
Rehabilitation

9 Years:
Older Dog Training

It is a myth that you can't teach an old dog new tricks. Older dogs are very trainable; they may just be slightly more stubborn. Unlearning a behavior takes more patience, but older dogs crave the clarity of pack leadership just as much as puppies do.

The Rehab Process:

  • Breaking the cycle of "Command Satiation" (ignoring you).
  • Removing the dog from the "Alpha" decision-making role.
  • Reintroducing spatial pressure to correct adult reactivity.

English BulldogStubborn, low-energy, and often food-obsessed. Can develop severe resource guarding over bowls.
Great DaneGentle giants, but their massive size makes jumping or leash pulling extremely dangerous.
Australian ShepherdNeurotically smart. Prone to nipping at heels and separation anxiety. Need "jobs".
Shih TzuNotoriously difficult to housebreak. They require intense consistency and strict crate scheduling.

Dogg Boss Gear – Professional Dog Leashes

Dogg Boss Gear is a specialized brand of professional dog training equipment designed for real-world use by dog owners, trainers, and working dog handlers. Our handcrafted dog leashes, collars, and obedience management gear are built for durability, control, comfort, and safety.

Designed by a Professional Dog Trainer

Dogg Boss Gear was created by Jeff Wolfson, known as “The DoggBoss,” a master dog trainer and behavior specialist with over 35 years of experience working with dogs and their owners. Jeff’s career began when he served in the United States Air Force as a K-9 handler.

Through decades of hands-on work, Jeff recognized that many owners struggled not because they lacked effort—but because they lacked the right equipment. This led to the creation of Dogg Boss Gear, a line of innovative dog leashes designed to make everyday dog ownership easier.

A Professional Dog Trainer’s Guide to Choosing the Best Leash

Choosing the right dog training leash is one of the most important decisions a dog owner can make. The leash is more than just a tool for walking a dog — it is a communication device between the dog and the handler.

Many traditional dog leashes are designed only for convenience. They simply clip onto a collar and allow the dog to move freely. While this may work for a well-trained dog, it provides very little guidance during training, leading to excessive pulling, lunging, and frustration.

Zipp-n-Go Training Leash

The Zipp-n-Go Leash

A unique leash and collar system designed for quick use and effective training communication. It allows handlers to guide dogs naturally while maintaining control during walks.

Dog Trainer Comparison: Choosing the Best Leash

Standard Clip Leash

Best for: Calm Dogs

Cons: Limited communication. Dogs easily lean into it and pull.

Retractable Leash

Best for: Open Fields

Cons: Zero control. Actively encourages pulling behavior and creates danger near traffic.

Harness Systems

Best for: Medical Issues

Cons: Distributes pressure to the chest, which dramatically increases pulling power.

Trainer Pick

Professional Training Leads

Best for: Obedience

Pros: Instant communication, highly effective at stopping pulling.

The Truth About Training

Training Myths Debunked

Click or hover over the cards below to reveal the truth behind the most common dog training misconceptions.

MYTH

"You need a pocket full of treats to get a dog to listen to you."

Hover to Reveal

FACT

Treat luring creates bribery. True obedience is built on psychological leadership and respect. The dog should listen to *you*, not the food.

MYTH

"You can't teach an old dog new tricks. It's too late for my 7-year-old dog."

Hover to Reveal

FACT

Older dogs are highly trainable. Unlearning bad habits requires more repetition, but they crave structure and leadership just as much as puppies.

MYTH

"My rescue dog was abused, so I shouldn't correct them or be strict."

Hover to Reveal

FACT

Traumatized dogs need structure more than anything. Coddling reinforces their fear. Confident leadership makes them feel safe and protected.

MYTH

"Putting a harness on my dog will stop them from pulling on walks."

Hover to Reveal

FACT

Harnesses distribute weight across the chest, which actively *increases* a dog's pulling power (think of sled dogs). You need a proper training lead.

Structured dog walking and exercise Atlanta
Mental Drain > Physical Drain

"A structured walk tires the brain. Chaotic running only builds stamina."

Structured Exercise

The Walk & Train Protocol

Many behavior problems stem from pent-up energy. But here is the million-dollar secret: Throwing a ball for an hour or letting them run wild at a dog park doesn't fix the problem. It just creates a higher-stamina athlete.

What your dog actually needs is Structured Exercise. A 30-minute walk where the dog is forced to stay in a focused "Heel" position drains exponentially more energy than an hour of chaotic running, because it requires intense mental concentration.

Walk N' Train Services

  • Leash Mastery: We teach your dog to walk perfectly on a loose leash, ignoring massive distractions like squirrels and other dogs.
  • Mental Burn: Structured walking burns off the anxious energy that directly leads to chewing, digging, and barking indoors.
  • Owner Transfer: We don't just walk them for you. We show you exactly how to replicate this structured walk every single morning.

Legal & Liability Education

Know Your Rights:
A Georgia Dog Owner's Guide

Understanding GA state laws to keep you, your pup, and your neighbors safe. Swipe to learn how training protects you.

1. The "One-Bite" Myth

The Myth: "My dog gets one free bite before I'm liable."

The Reality: In Georgia (OCGA § 51-2-7), you are liable immediately if your dog was required to be on a leash by local law and was roaming free, OR if you knew they had aggressive tendencies.

2. Dangerous vs. Vicious

Dangerous Dog: Causes a puncture bite (skin break) or aggressively lunges.

Vicious Dog: Causes serious injury (fractures/surgery) or kills another pet.

3. Public Access Rights

Fully Trained: Protected by the ADA for public access.

In Training (SDiT): In GA, SDiTs only have public access rights if accompanied by a trainer from an accredited school.

4. The "Leash Law" Secret

Did you know? There is absolutely NO statewide leash law in Georgia.

The Catch: Almost every major county (Fulton, Gwinnett, Cobb, etc.) has its own strict ordinances regarding physical control.

Atlanta Metro County Ordinances

Fulton

Strict leash law. Dogs must be on a leash not exceeding 6 feet in length when in parks, public areas, or off property. Electronic collars do NOT satisfy the physical leash requirement.

Cobb

Mandates that dogs must be "under control" at all times. If off property, the dog must be on a leash or at a strict heel beside a competent person obedient to commands. Wandering is prohibited.

Gwinnett

Strict restraint law. Dogs must be on a physical leash, inside a fenced area, or confined to a vehicle. Voice control alone is legally insufficient if an incident occurs off private property.

Cherokee

Requires dogs to be under immediate physical restraint when off property. Nuisance laws also strictly prohibit continuous, unprovoked barking that disturbs neighbors for extended periods.

Legal Disclaimer: Information provided is for educational and SEO purposes only. Ordinances change frequently. Consult your local animal control or a licensed Georgia attorney for precise legal counsel regarding liability.

4. Master Training FAQs

Can dog behavior problems be fixed?
Most dog behavior problems can be significantly improved with proper training and consistent communication between the dog and the owner.
How long does behavior training take?
The length of training depends on the dog and the severity of the behavior issue. Some problems improve quickly, while others require a structured program over several weeks.
Do aggressive dogs need special training?
Yes. Aggressive dogs often require behavior modification programs designed specifically for their triggers and temperament.
Do you offer in-home dog behavior training in Atlanta?
Yes. Superior Dog Training specializes in in-home dog training programs throughout the Atlanta metro area.
Do you use treats to train?
We do not use treat "luring" or bribery to command obedience. Treat training creates a dog that only listens when you have a piece of chicken in your hand. We use praise, affection, and psychological leadership.
